Barkuma Neighbourhood Centre Inc was established in 1994 as the direct result of a community meeting held in Cessnock Council Hall. Facilitated by Deb, this meeting gave our local Aboriginal community the chance to come together and discuss their needs.

The need for a welcoming place for them to go for support and assistance without prejudice was identified and from here, Barkuma was born.
